As from September 2016, all US passport holders are required to obtain 1-year multiple entry visa for Vietnam regardless of how long they are staying in Vietnam. Other types become unavailable for US citizens.
At the moment, with 1-year multiple entry visa, Vietnam visa for US citizens are classified into 2 types:
- 1-year multiple entry tourist visa; and
- 1-year multiple entry business visa.
What make these types of visa same and different?
Both these types of visa are valid for one year with multiple entries. It means that their holders can use this visa for multiple entries into Vietnam within 1 year.
But, for tourist visas, their holders are allowed to stay in Vietnam for maximum 3 months in each entry. And then after those 3 months, they must leave the country and come back and stay for another 3 months and so on.
While for business visas, their holders are allowed to stay in Vietnam as long as they wish in each entry, even 1 year.
How to obtain a Vietnam visa online for US citizens?
The process to obtain a visa online for US passport holders to Vietnam remains simple as previously as follows:
- Complete the online form at https://booking.vietnam-visa.com/step1.html (remember to select 1-year multiple entry (for US only) as type of visa);
- Pay for service fee;
- Get visa approval letter via email within 2 working days (for tourist visa) or 7 working days (for business visa or even faster depending on your choice, together with details to prepare to get visa stamped;
- Get visa stamped upon arrival at Vietnam airport.
How much does it cost to get a Vietnam visa online for US citizens?
To get a visa online to Vietnam, US citizens still have to pay two kinds of service:
- Service fee to get visa approval letter (paid online): it’s US $35 for 1-year multiple entry tourist visa and US $350 for a 1-year multiple entry business visa.
- Stamping fee to pick up full visa at Vietnam airport (paid in cash): It’s US $135/visa regardless of purpose.
