Vietnam’s multi award-winning 5-star resort The Nam Hai was one of only three out of 500 Leading Hotels of the World to be honoured with a 2010 Commitment to Excellence Award acknowledged for its exceptional efforts to exert a positive impact on the world in the area of community outreach.

The resort launched The Sympathetic Hearts charity fund in 2009 to bring support to the local community, with a special focus on helping disadvantaged children attend school.

Various projects have taken place through the fund including a scholarship programme that paid for school tuition and expenses for 57 local children, essay writing competitions with the chance to win dining vouchers at The Nam Hai or the opportunity to ‘Be part of the Nam Hai Staff for the Day’, to learn about day-to-day resort operations.

Additional activities included donating blankets and food following the devastation of Typhoon Ketsana, presenting gifts of basic necessities such as rice, noodles and laundry detergent to local families during Tet Lunar New Year in 2010 and organising a beach clean up on World Environment Day.

Current and future projects also include university scholarships for five talented local students, food donations to a local orphanage and handicapped centre sponsored by Tetra-Pak Japan and regular medical missions.

The Chedi Chiang Mai meanwhile was one of only two properties in Asia Pacific and 10 worldwide to receive a Commitment to Qualityaccolade.  This award recognises those properties which achieved the highest Leading Quality Assurance (LQA) scores during the period from July 2009 to June 2010.

The LQA scores are based on a unique and detailed quality assurance audit that takes place anonymously at member hotels and measures over 1,200 standards in 28 departments.

“The Leading Hotels of the World is well known for its very stringent system of quality control checks on its hotels so this award really shows that the hotel operates to a very high standard,” said GHM President & Director Hans Jenni.
